Building a Hope and a Future.
From our Home to Yours
Samaritan's Place at a Glance
Samaritan's Place is a licensed and accredited child-caring agency with the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development since June 2000. Founded by Marc and Marilen Morris, their desire is for SP to live God's mandate in James 1:27 (NIV) "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Engaged. Empowered. Encouraged.
Engaged to Connect
One Child At A Time
The SP Board of Directors and staff never forget that each child has experienced a significant loss, a disconnect. Our goal is for them to know that they are a precious child created in God's image, to build back a healthy trust in people, and live a life filled with hope and a future.
Teach to Empower
One Block at a Time.
Our goal is to prepare the children for family life, be it through reunification or adoption into a local or foreign Forever family. We desire to "train up a child in the way he/she should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Prov 22:6
Encouraged with Love.
One Need Met at a Time.
Seven to ten days is when we usually see the change in the eyes of a child. There is a change from fear to feeling safe, a shift back to being a child without adult responsibilities. Does the fear show up at times? Yes, it does. That is why we strive every day to encourage them with love.
When asked to recount the impact Samaritans Place has had on my life, these two short words immediately came to mind: Forever Changed.
I spent about three months in total at the orphanage, and I experienced God in a way that turned my whole world upside down. In every smile and laugh, I saw the finger-prints of the Almighty. There are no words to express the amount of joy that met me when I stepped off the airplane 9,000 miles from my home, but with this joy also came heartache. Why am I so incredibly blessed when others struggle to simply get by? Why did God choose to put me in my circumstances instead of what others may be experiencing? These are questions that raced around in my head even after I returned back to college life.
Here in the US, I am living in a beautiful city, with a family that loves me; meanwhile, there are orphans in the Philippines who are abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Why God? This seemed to be the only question that I could formulate. This was something that I could not come to grips with. As I prayed and pleaded with God, I was given the words “Audrey, I see them”. In every instance, in every story that shattered my heart into pieces, God could see every detail, and not only could He see the details, but he was using them for His glory. He is sovereign. Because of Samaritans Place, these children were all exposed and taught of the amazing truth of the Gospel.
Adoption is an amazing story of redemption; it is a story of second chances. These children, and many around the world just like them, have stories that will break your heart. BUT GOD has more in store for their precious lives.
Thank you Samaritans Place for being Christ’s vessel for these second chances, and for loving each and every child as if they were your very own. Samaritans Place is an anointed place and truly touches each life that walks through its doors, including mine.
